Is the Kawai VPC1 the Ultimate MIDI Controller?
I can absolutely notice the difference. It’s so damn pretty
They both sound excellent !
Tell me each piano of each model isn't really individual even before a tech goes to work on it. PS my 1969 Baldwin L has a clarity that rivals plenty of Steinways. It also has a resonant coherence in the very high register that makes it more tunable than a lot of those Steinies, and, best of all, the low end has power and focus that doesn't quit. One last thought I have a 660 sq ft living room with French doors that open to a large deck overlooking the pond on a very large acreage also quite open into the rest of the 1st floor, and I don't think I'd prefer or even want the sound of a bigger instrument in that space. I have owned other Baldwins and I guess I'm just a fan....
Shigeru sounds more brighter than Steinway to me~~:)
I'd be more than happy with any Acoustic Kawai send me 1 plz 😂
Would love to have these compared to a S6X or CF6 from yamaha. I know this is harder to accomplish since you're not a yamaha dealer.
Kia Ora from New Zealand, Im watching this as im helping someone who owns one of these so im just trying to learn everything i can about these absurdly powerful instrument!
This keyboard is NOT available on your website.
Hi! ^^ Compared with the new roland FP30X which would be more realistic in terms of action and sensitivity? Thanks for your videos!
U3 is better
Great playing Ted.....Both pianos sounded incredible. I was particularly surprised by how good the GX7 sounded, compared to the SK, which we all know is a masterpiece at any size. Maybe the larger size really allowed the GX to blossom compared to a GX2?? However, at this level of instrument....the Microphones, the microphone placement, the microphone preamps used, the recording resolution, and the interface used to record, should all be stated. Because it is truly difficult, to hear the difference when a piece is being played, even with my studio mastering headphones on RUclips. You simply must use a high quality preamp and AD converter to hear subtle differences at this level. Of course, the room and room placement are different....an anechoic or heavily padded room would be best to hear this. I know this is difficult....but as you've been making videos for years, you may wish to invest in a stable recording environment where this could be achieved. You might also consider links to the high resolution audio (24bit 96khz) tracks....we don't need to see the video, but for those of us shopping for a piano...this would be helpful, because at this level...resolution becomes very important, and RUclips compresses files. I personally do not feel being hand made is so important anymore, as I did say 15 years ago, as long as it is well made. I collect vintage guitars, and with computer aided cutting, I've seen differences between hand made/machine made vanish. It's the materials that really make the difference...whether lacquer, hide glue, type of spruce, size of spruce pieces, age of spruce, etc. So are modern sound boards made from multiple strips of spruce glued together with non-musical aliphatic glue? like IKEA furniture?...or larger strips glued together with hide glue?...it all truly matters! Modern trees are also harvested when younger and the grains are not as compressed and dense. So whether a GX is made in an assembly line of experts, or by one expert is less important than in the past....particularly with the advent of computer guided tools. What is important is materials, sound and feel. Lastly, one of the major differences in construction, in addition to rim material in the SK series, is the hand wound bass strings. I noticed a distinct clarity when I tried out an SK recently. Can you please play groupings of single note comparisons, particularly in the bass range, with some room padding to control low end resonances from the room. For instruments, high end clarity is usually fairly simple to achieve. However, bass note clarity can be very difficult, and truly can differentiate a great instrument from a good one. Sorry I wrote so much. Thank you.
The Model B does rule. Such a great instrument in every way.
Nice presentation, Ted. Thank you. Sangah Noona calls the SK6 her dream piano. She has hers perfectly mic’d for YT streams, and it sounds incredible no matter what genre she plays. Kawai really does make beautiful instruments.
Absolutely a great demo. Definitely a fun keyboard.
The master craftsman is coming to me in August . I bought my SK6 two years ago. I love it
SO happy for you!!!
What piece are you playing at 7:17? It’s so beautiful.
Quality instrument. No less than a new Steinway B in any aspect.
Some corrections… 1. early player pianos worked with foot pumping vacuum AIR - not electricity, and 2. The early players music are called “rolls” not scrolls.
1st Yamaha 2nd kawai 3rd roland
Mahalo Ted for doing this comparison! I know what I'm upgrading to next.
I’m glad I play trumpet.I own 11 of them of various types, but their total value does not approach the costs of serious pianos.
what a hypocrisy
In my country one is like 80% more expensive, so I will either go for the casio CDP-S160 or a slightly cheaper one, like cdp-90. There's a chance I will buy the yamaha p145 but I'm not sure.
Aren’t you the same Yamaha salesman that hilariously claimed the P125a was a big upgrade from the original P125? Lol. If you had been honest (not just a salesman) and admitted the only thing Yamaha changed in the 125a was stripping out the useful audio interface the original model had, but didn’t cut the MSRP by one penny, you would have more credibility now. People, please don’t base your keyboard purchases on what biased salespeople say. The internet is chock full of them. For what it’s worth, the P525 is actually a decent update over the P515 mostly because of the improved keybed. That’s coming from a longtime owner of both, not a dishonest shill.
My piano teacher has one of this. It is a wonderful piano.
The Essex sounds great but I wonder how much of that is just down to it being tuned.
When I shopped for a new piano I played two rebuilt 1930s Stainway baby grand pianos. The quality and richness of sound was amazing, the action extremely responsive and perfectly regulated. They were priced around $ 30,000 and I found the sound much superior to say a new Kawai or Yamaha. Should be said that these were Hamburg-built Stainways and the repairs were done by trained technicians of a Blüthner-authorized dealer in Germany.
Best explanation yet of decay and looping vs modelling , aside from the comparison of the two keyboards. Thank you . And yes, I like one much more based on sound
Pp
16:18 16: 😊
This confirms my impression that I like newer GXs more than older GXs and older SKs more than newer SKs. As for the action, the level of control at pianissimo on the SKs is unmatched.
That Shigeru SK7 is flawless! Be still, my beating heart!
Is the microphone setup the same? What about the room size?
exact same microphone gear was used. there is a special video about how we record our pianos for sound.
@@tedbarsalou833 can you make the audio tracks available at high res?
I want to love the SK but something in the GX had this texture and immidiacy in the entire tonal range. An edgy raspiness, An attack, a cut through. A rustic love. Listening on high res headphones here ... The SK is creamier smoother but you may have heard differently when playing. Love the new repotoire you have added to your reviews. Some beautiful compositions and harmonies. What did you feel? - From a happy yet hungry for more 1-year old-GL 30 owner hoping my GL will develop this character and raspiness one day else maybe I should trade up to a GX.
A " rustic love " ??? 😂
The SK series piano are intimidatingly beautiful to play. Your physic/physical response is over saturated with a richness of power, tone, precision and inspiration is just unbelievable.
@@PianoRevisited 😂
@@tedbarsalou833 you're probably right you have to get time with them. I have played an sk3, played an sk7 for a very brief moment in their Tokyo store. I think these days the GX itself, made at scale, possibly beats most premium pianos, even europeon hand made ones. Today in 2024, budget not being of concern, would you say the SK series may be the better multi-generation/lifetime ownership home piano even over a comparable new Steinway or bechstein?
@@izz0408 SK's are far better pianos than more expensive brands.
“It’s the best piano in the world….. There are better…..”
Whatever presets you are changing for each demonstration, you need to be showing that on the screen.
Great Video, now how about showing some love to some other great makers of Digital Pianos, comparing the flagship upright models of the Casio Celviano GP-510BK up with the Roland LX-9? Maybe they are not "Direct Competitors" of your current two selections but they are very nice actions and represent another big part of the market.
Buongiorno, questo è il suono proveniente dagli speakers integrati?
Somewhere in Queens: "We're gonna need a bigger B"
I love that all your prices are clearly listed on your site. It's nice to see transparency in piano pricing.
That thing rips, man! What a beautiful instrument.
Man Ted , That piano sounds fabulous ! The highs absolutely sparkle. If I had an extra 5 mil, I would definitely get one and then surround it with a house with an expanded music room befitting this magnificent instrument. If only ............
Wow! I've played one of these and I think it was better than most of the 9' concert grands I've played at schools and churches. Such a big bold sound while still being silky smooth on the bottom end, not clangy like some of the, well you know who,,, pianos
Beautiful!!!
This appears to be a great beginner stage digital piano with a nice variety of sounds including classical, organ, strings, choir and base. I like the recording option and the fact it is lightweight to easily carry from home to gigs.
This was a good intro to show a beginner keyboard with a range of great piano sounds which can be used as a working/traveling instrument. Looking forward to Part 2 to hear more of the various sounds.
Papo furado heim vai direto ao ponto
This particular piano sounds very much like my own Model B, built in 1997. The sustain on my piano is incredible. And the range of timbre is off the charts. It just sings. The B in this video seems to have the same qualities. I had mine regulated with the Stanwood Touch specs, so the action is very fluid - not overly heavy like most Steinways.
My tuner was spitting all over the place over GX-7: he said it was about 65 grams on the keys and he had to sliver (is that how you say in english remove excess bulk from the hammers?) the hammers extensively to get to 52 on the subcontroctave and 47 in the 5th.
thank you for the video! may i know where the speakers are located for the s35?
